Leona Maguire
Leona Maguire (Slieve Russell) fired a level par 72 to qualify 3rd at the Spanish International Ladies Amateur Championship at Sherry Golf Jerez, Cadiz, March 2nd - 6th.
Leona was in fine form finishing just 2 over par for the 36 qualifying holes, 4 shots behind joint leading qualifiers Ines Lescudier (FRA) and Vicki Troeltsch (GER), and will face Spain’s Mandy Goyos Ball in the opening match pay round.
Danielle McVeigh (RCDL) threw caution to the wind after a 79 on the first day and was well rewarded with a one-under par 71.
Unfortunately for the Irish International, the automatic draw sees her play Curtis Cup and International team mate Lisa Maguire (Slieve Russell) in the opening round after Lisa added an impressive one-over par 73 to her opening 77.
Ireland’s fourth member of the ILGU’s High Performance squad Gillian O’Leary (Cork) failed to make the cut after adding a 79 to her opening 80.
Ireland finished 3rd behind France and Germany in the Nations Cup.
The field of 97 players was whittled down to just 32 after two days qualifying where the cut fell at 9 over par. The 16 match play pairings battle it out with the Champion crowned on Sunday morning.
