Rory McIlroy is reported to be about to sign a deal with Nike in a deal worth $250 million (€191 million) over 10 years.

It is thought that Nike are anxious to sign the 23-year-old clean cut professional as soon as possible, after cutting all ties with Lance Armstrong in the wake of the doping scandal.

The brand continued its endorsement deal with Tiger Woods in the wake of his sex scandal in 2009.

McIlroy’s management company responded to questions about the proposed deal, by telling the Telegraph newspaper: “It is our policy not to get involved in any industry rumours or speculation relating to any of our players”.

McIlroy currently has endorsements with Titleist, which provides the clubs and balls that he used to win the US Open and the USPGA championships, but that deal is due to expire at the end of this year.

McIlroy is considered the second most marketable sports star in the world at the moment, just behind Brazilian footballer Neymar.

Already unassailable at the top of the American money list McIlroy takes a Race to Dubai lead of €427,334 into the BMW Masters in Shanghai this week.

McIlroy who spent last week in Moscow watching his girlfriend Caroline Wozniacki claim her 20th tennis title, said:

"I would love to win the Race to Dubai so I am going to give it one last push," he said. "Motivation won't be a problem. I want to try to keep my lead in the world rankings and try to finish off the season well. There is still a lot to play for. It has been a great season. I have some big events coming up.”
