Ernie Els has been forced to pull out of next week's PGA Grand Slam of Golf in Bermuda after suffering an ankle injury.

The Open champion will be replaced in the four-man field by Padraig Harrington in the 36-hole event at the Port Royal Golf Club in Bermuda.

The South African's withdrawal is another blow for organisers after PGA champion Rory McIlroy opted to miss the tournament to play at the BMW Masters in Shanghai.

McIlroy was replaced by 2011 PGA Championship winner Keegan Bradley, who will line up alongside Harrington, Masters champion Bubba Watson and US Open victor Webb Simpson.

Els revealed that his sprained ankle is not a serious issue, although he was advised not to play in Bermuda on medical advice.
